Get ready to laugh until it hurts: Brent Butt, the comedic mind behind Canada's beloved sitcom Corner Gas, is bringing his stand-up show to the Venables Theatre stage.
Born and raised in the small farming town of Tisdale, Saskatchewan, Brent discovered his love of making people laugh at the local coffee shop, trading stories with friends for hours at a time. That easy, conversational style of comedy carried him from Saskatoon comedy clubs to headlining stages across the country, and eventually to creating, writing, starring in, and directing Corner Gas, one of the highest-rated sitcoms in Canadian television history and a two-time nominee for an International Emmy Award.
Since then, Brent's career has only grown: a Gemini Award nomination, the title of "Best Male Stand-Up in Canada," a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his contributions to community and country, and a string of award-winning follow-ups including Corner Gas: The Movie and Corner Gas: Animated. His debut novel, HUGE, landed as the #1 fiction bestseller in Canada.
Now Brent brings decades of stage experience to Oliver for a night of sharp, story-driven comedy that feels like sitting around a coffee shop table with an old friend, minus the coffee (unless you bring your own).
