Venables Theatre presents
KINFOLK NATION
Venables Alive! Series

About the Performance
Kinfolk Nation, Lady Dia & Trophy are a musical duo currently exploring “The Birth of the New Jazz: the Sound of Ubuntu (I Am Because You Are)”. They are storytellers coming from the fars & beyond’s of the Kinfolk Nation; a creative tribe who carry storied spirit & song.
โ
Kinfolk Nation’s art is a deliberate fusion of heritage, documentation, and modern experimentation. It is less about a single medium and more about a multidisciplinary approach to storytelling.
โ
Their musical identity is built on a bridge between ancestral sounds and contemporary arrangements. Performance/art often centers on the interplay between the acoustic-electric guitar and traditional percussion like the djembe, layered with modern keyboard textures. It frequently incorporates oral traditions and spoken word, treating the voice as both a melodic instrument and a vessel for history. The result is a genre-bending sound—often labeled as Afro-Folk—that feels both intimate and expansive.
“Last night I dreamt about taking over the world with the Kinfolk Nation. I know it sounds crazy, but it’s the best dream I’ve had in a while.”
We are Kinfolk Nation, free like the Negmawon and guided by the philosophy of Ubuntu.
Kinfolk is an artist coalition documenting the experiences and stories of contemporary Africans/ Caribbeans/ Spirits, and the kindred spirits they cross paths with.
We are building a nation, people! We are building a nation.
Everybody is welcome but only if you have love.
